Product Description
The Roman Empire Gallienus "ORIENS" coin is a remarkable numismatic artifact from the reign of Emperor Gallienus, who ruled from AD 253 to AD 268 during the Crisis of the Third Century. This bronze coin, also known as an Antoninianus, bears an intriguing design on its reverse side.
The central motif of the coin features the personification of the Eastern provinces, ORIENS AVG, Sol standing left, raising right hand and holding globe in left hand represented as a majestic female figure, often depicted with a radiant crown or a palm branch, symbolizing victory and abundance.
This depiction underscores Gallienus's efforts to maintain unity within the empire and acknowledge the significance of the Eastern regions. On the obverse, GALLIENVS AVG, radiate head right, asserting his authority and position as the Roman Emperor.
