Product Description

An unusual original 11×50R military rifle cartridge, manufactured in the United States by the Union Metallic Cartridge Company (UMC) for the export market.

The 11×50R belongs to the family of large-bore, rimmed military cartridges used with Albini-Braendlin and Comblain-type service rifles during the latter part of the 19th century.

This particularly attractive example has a large rimmed, bottlenecked brass case fitted with a substantial round-nosed lead projectile. The case carries the desirable early “U.M.C. / U.S.A.” headstamp of the Union Metallic Cartridge Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

UMC produced ammunition in numerous foreign and obsolete military calibres, making these export-market cartridges particularly interesting to advanced collectors of early metallic ammunition.

The 11×50R is encountered under a number of closely related period descriptions, including 11mm Albini, 11mm Belgian Comblain and 11×50R Albini/Comblain.

A scarce and impressive large-bore cartridge that displays extremely well alongside other 19th-century military ammunition.
