Product Description

An exceptionally scarce and highly collectible 1903 dated 8×56R Kropatschek Short 2nd Model inert cartridge, featuring the desirable F.A. headstamp, identifying production by the Portuguese state arsenal system, Fábrica de Armas.

The 8×56R Kropatschek cartridge is closely associated with the famous Portuguese Kropatschek repeating rifles adopted during the late 19th century. These rifles represented an important transitional stage in military firearms development, bridging the gap between earlier single-shot rifles and later bolt-action repeating systems.

The Short 2nd Model variation is particularly desirable among collectors due to its comparatively limited production and distinctive appearance. Dated 1903, this cartridge originates from the pre-First World War era and represents military ammunition manufacture during the transition from black powder to early smokeless powder systems.

Portuguese Kropatschek ammunition is considerably scarcer than later Mauser or WW1 military cartridges, making surviving examples increasingly difficult to source. The F.A. arsenal marking adds significant collector appeal and historical importance.

This example retains authentic period appearance with attractive age-related patina and strong display character, making it an outstanding addition to collections focused on obsolete military ammunition, Portuguese militaria, or early repeating rifle systems.
