Product Description

An original Second World War British Air Raid Precautions (A.R.P.) whistle, manufactured by the renowned J. Hudson & Co., Barr Street, Hockley, Birmingham, makers of the famous ACME whistles and official suppliers to the British Government and Civil Defence organisations. J. Hudson & Co. received one of the first large contracts for ARP whistles in 1938, with hundreds of thousands issued to wardens, police and other civil defence personnel during the war.

This nickel-plated brass whistle is clearly stamped:

A.R.P.
J. HUDSON & CO.
BARR ST. HOCKLEY
BIRMINGHAM

Issued to Air Raid Precautions wardens and other Home Front personnel, these whistles were an essential signalling tool during air raids, used to direct civilians, warn of dangers and coordinate emergency responses during the Blitz. Over one million ARP whistles are believed to have been produced during the Second World War.

This example retains its original suspension chain and hook and is presented in very good condition, with crisp markings and attractive nickel plating, making it an excellent piece of British Home Front memorabilia and an ideal display item for any WWII collection.

Condition: Very good original condition with age-related wear and original chain and clip present.
