Product Description

An original U.S. .30-40 Krag (.30 U.S. Army) inert cartridge manufactured by Frankford Arsenal in February 1904, as identified by the FA 2 04 headstamp.

Introduced in 1892, the .30-40 Krag was the first smokeless powder military cartridge officially adopted by the United States Army. It was issued for use in the famous Krag–Jørgensen rifle and carbine, seeing service during the Spanish–American War, the Philippine–American War, and throughout the early years of the twentieth century before gradually being replaced by the M1903 Springfield and the .30-03 cartridge.

This example was produced by Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia, the principal U.S. Government ammunition manufacturing facility. The February 1904 production date places it during the final years of regular U.S. military Krag ammunition manufacture, making it an excellent representative example of America's transition from nineteenth-century military arms to the modern Springfield era.

Featuring the distinctive long rimmed bottleneck case and round-nosed projectile, this cartridge remains one of the most recognisable and historically significant early U.S. military rifle rounds.

A superb addition to any collection of U.S. military ammunition, Spanish-American War memorabilia, Krag–Jørgensen rifles, Frankford Arsenal headstamps, or early smokeless powder cartridges.
