Product Description

An original inert German 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge bearing the am St 6 1943 headstamp. This is a genuine Second World War military cartridge manufactured for the Wehrmacht during 1943, when German ammunition production was at its peak.

The am manufacturer code identifies Gustloff-Werke, Otto Eberhardt Patronenfabrik, located at Hirtenberg, Niederdonau (Lower Austria). Originally known as Hirtenberger Patronen-, Zündhütchen- und Metallwarenfabrik A.G., the factory came under German control following the Anschluss in 1938 and became part of the Gustloff-Werke armaments group. It produced millions of 9×19mm Parabellum and 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridges for the Wehrmacht throughout the war.

Headstamp Breakdown

  • am – Gustloff-Werke, Otto Eberhardt Patronenfabrik, Hirtenberg, Lower Austria
  • St – Steel cartridge case
  • 6 – Production Lot 6
  • 1943 – Year of manufacture

The St marking denotes a steel cartridge case, introduced to reduce the use of brass as Germany's wartime demand for ammunition increased. By 1943, steel-cased 9mm ammunition had become standard across much of German military production.

This cartridge would have been issued for use in many of Germany's principal 9mm service weapons, including:

  • P08 Luger
  • Walther P38
  • MP38
  • MP40
  • MP41
  • Other German firearms chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum
