Product Description

An original inert German 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge bearing the ak St 17 1944 headstamp. This is a genuine late Second World War military cartridge manufactured for the Wehrmacht during 1944.

The ak manufacturer code identifies Munitionsfabriken (formerly Sellier & Bellot), Vlašim (Wlaschim), Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Following the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1939, the famous Sellier & Bellot factory was taken over and became one of the Wehrmacht's principal producers of 9mm Parabellum ammunition. The factory supplied millions of cartridges for German pistols and submachine guns throughout the war.

Headstamp Breakdown

  • ak – Munitionsfabriken (formerly Sellier & Bellot), Vlašim
  • St – Steel cartridge case
  • 17 – Production Lot 17
  • 1944 – Year of manufacture

The St marking denotes a steel cartridge case, adopted to conserve brass as Germany's demand for ammunition increased. By 1944, steel-cased 9mm ammunition was standard across much of German wartime production.

This cartridge would have been issued for use in many of Germany's standard 9mm service weapons, including:

  • P08 Luger
  • Walther P38
  • MP38
  • MP40
  • MP41
  • Other German firearms chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum

Features

  • Original German Wehrmacht issue
  • Inert 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge
  • ak manufacturer code
  • Manufactured by Sellier & Bellot, Vlašim
  • St steel case
  • Production Lot 17

Collector's Note: There is some discussion among specialist cartridge collectors regarding 1944 "ak St" headstamps, as many documented 1944 ak examples are found with different case markings. If your cartridge is clearly marked ak St 17 1944, it is a particularly interesting late-war variation.
