Product Description

An original inert Imperial German 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge dated 1917, manufactured by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken A.G. (DWM). This is a genuine First World War military cartridge produced for the Imperial German Army during one of the most significant years of the conflict.

Founded in 1896, Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) became Germany's foremost manufacturer of military firearms and ammunition. The company produced the famous P08 Luger pistol, as well as the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge that became Germany's standard military pistol ammunition. During the First World War, DWM supplied millions of cartridges for the German Army and Navy, making it one of the Empire's most important wartime manufacturers.

Headstamp Breakdown

  • DWM – Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken A.G.
  • 1917 – Year of manufacture
  • Original Imperial German military production

Manufactured in 1917, this cartridge would have been issued for use in:

  • P08 Luger
  • LP08 Artillery Luger
  • MP18 (introduced during the final year of the war)
  • Other Imperial German firearms chambered for the 9×19mm Parabellum cartridge

By 1917, Germany had changed from the earlier truncated-cone bullet profile to the more familiar round-nose projectile, following concerns that Allied troops believed the earlier bullet type violated the laws of war. Most 1917-dated DWM cartridges therefore feature the round-nose projectile seen on later military ammunition.
