Product Description
An original inert German 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge bearing the P69 S 11 1936* headstamp. This is a genuine pre-Second World War military cartridge manufactured during Germany's rapid rearmament programme.
The P69 manufacturer code identifies Polte-Werke, Magdeburg, one of Germany's principal military ammunition manufacturers. The P-code system was introduced to conceal the identity of military contractors, with P69 being assigned to Polte following the adoption of coded headstamps.
The headstamp markings indicate:
- P69 – Polte-Werke, Magdeburg
- S* – Improved brass cartridge case (enhanced brass alloy introduced for increased case strength)
- 11 – Production Lot 11
- 1936 – Year of manufacture
Produced in 1936, this cartridge dates from the early expansion of the Wehrmacht before the outbreak of the Second World War. It would have been issued for use in the Karabiner 98k, Gewehr 98, and German machine guns chambered for the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge. The S* brass case marking was used on German military ammunition from the mid-1930s before the widespread adoption of steel cases later in the war.
A superb collector's piece for enthusiasts of German militaria, Mauser rifles and pre-war Wehrmacht ammunition.
