Original German 8mm Bergmann Simplex pistol cartridge manufactured by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) at Karlsruhe, Germany.

The headstamp reads DWM K 488 K, with the number 488 identifying the 8mm Bergmann Simplex cartridge in DWM's factory numbering system.

Developed for the Bergmann Simplex semi-automatic pistol, this uncommon cartridge represents early European automatic pistol ammunition development around the turn of the 20th century.

The example retains its original brass case, round-nosed bullet and clearly struck factory headstamp, with attractive age-related patina.
