Product Description
An original British .455 Webley Mk II inert cartridge manufactured by Kynoch & Co., Birmingham, featuring the desirable K C II military headstamp.
Introduced in 1897, the .455 Webley Mk II became the standard British military revolver cartridge for the Webley Mk IV, Mk V and Mk VI service revolvers. The Mk II utilised a shorter case than the earlier Mk I, improving ballistic performance and becoming Britain's principal service revolver cartridge for over four decades.
The K identifies Kynoch & Co., Britain's leading commercial ammunition manufacturer and a major supplier to the War Office. The C denotes a Cordite-loaded cartridge, distinguishing it from earlier black powder loadings, while II identifies the Mark II pattern. This K C II headstamp was used during the early production of the Mk II before later wartime headstamps incorporated year markings.
These cartridges saw extensive service throughout the Second Boer War, First World War, and remained in military use into the inter-war period until superseded by later dated production. As an early Kynoch military headstamp, it is highly desirable to collectors of British military ammunition and Webley revolvers.
