Product Description
An original British .455 Webley Auto Mk I inert cartridge featuring the classic KYNOCH commercial headstamp, manufactured by the renowned Birmingham ammunition company Kynoch Ltd.
Introduced alongside the Webley & Scott Self-Loading Pistol, the .455 Webley Auto was developed in 1904 and standardised as the Mark I service cartridge in 1913. Unlike the rimmed .455 Webley revolver cartridge, the .455 Auto is a semi-rimmed design specifically intended for use in the Webley & Scott self-loading pistol, which saw service with British military forces during the First World War and continued in limited use into the Second World War.
This example bears the commercial KYNOCH headstamp, identifying manufacture by Kynoch Ltd. of Witton, Birmingham, one of Britain's most famous ammunition manufacturers. Kynoch supplied both military contracts and commercial sporting ammunition throughout the British Empire, and its products are highly regarded by ammunition collectors today.
The .455 Auto cartridge is considerably scarcer than the more common .455 Webley revolver cartridge and is sought after by collectors specialising in British military pistols, Webley & Scott firearms, and early twentieth-century ammunition.
An excellent display piece for collectors of British military ammunition, Webley & Scott pistols, Kynoch products, First World War militaria, and historic cartridge headstamps.
