Product Description
Original 1974 British 20mm Hispano-Type Cannon Cartridge – Lot 1
An unusual example of a British post-war 20mm cannon cartridge, dated 1974 and featuring a distinctive blackened metal projectile with a prominent copper driving band.
The brass cartridge case bears the markings 20MM, 74 and LOT 1, identifying the calibre, year of manufacture and production lot.
Research into comparable British 20mm ammunition suggests a possible connection with Kynoch (ICI) and BMAR, a British ammunition contractor associated with the production and loading of 20mm Hispano ammunition for export contracts during the 1970s. This attribution remains provisional.
The cartridge is believed to be of the 20 × 110mm Hispano-Suiza family, widely associated with the Hispano cannon fitted to numerous British military aircraft during the Second World War and retained in various applications after the war.
The projectile has an unusual dark finish, a rounded nose profile and a substantial copper driving band. Its appearance is consistent with certain armour-piercing projectile designs, although the exact projectile designation has not been established.
The brass case retains attractive age-related patination and visible original markings, making this an interesting addition to a collection of British military cannon ammunition.
