Product Description
This original K.O. Peppiatt One Pound Emergency Issue banknote represents an important piece of British wartime financial history. Issued during the early years of the Second World War, these notes were produced by the British Treasury as part of emergency currency measures intended to stabilise the monetary system in the event of disruption to the Bank of England’s normal note production.
Signed by Chief Cashier Kenneth Oswald Peppiatt, these Treasury notes were circulated widely throughout Britain during the 1940s. Their relatively simple yet distinctive design reflects the urgent circumstances under which they were produced, with clear typography and traditional styling typical of mid-20th century British currency.
This particular example carries the serial number M24H633315 and is catalogued as Dugg. B249 in the standard reference work by Dudley. Emergency issue notes such as this were printed in large quantities, but well-preserved examples remain highly collectible today due to their strong connection with Britain’s wartime economy and the extraordinary measures taken during the conflict.
K.O. Peppiatt notes are an essential addition for collectors of British banknotes, WWII memorabilia, or Treasury-issued currency. They offer a tangible link to a period when financial resilience was just as important as military strength in supporting the nation through wartime uncertainty.
