Product Description

An original inert .303 British Mk VII Ball cartridge bearing the RL 1926 headstamp. This is a genuine British military service cartridge manufactured in 1926 by the famous Royal Laboratory, Woolwich Arsenal, one of Britain's most important government ammunition factories.

The Royal Laboratory (RL) was established within Woolwich Arsenal and was responsible for the development and manufacture of British military ammunition from the nineteenth century through to the inter-war period. RL-produced cartridges are highly regarded by collectors for their historical importance and excellent manufacturing quality.

Headstamp Breakdown

  • RL – Royal Laboratory, Woolwich Arsenal, London
  • 1926 – Year of manufacture
  • Mk VII – Standard British .303 Ball service cartridge

The Mk VII Ball cartridge, introduced in 1910, featured a 174-grain spitzer (pointed) bullet and became the standard British military rifle cartridge for both World Wars. It remained in front-line service for decades and was renowned for its excellent accuracy and reliable performance.

Manufactured during the inter-war period, this cartridge would have been issued for use in:

  • Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) No.1 Mk III
  • Lee-Enfield No.4 Rifle
  • Vickers Medium Machine Gun
  • Lewis Gun
  • Bren Light Machine Gun (later service)

The 1926 production date places this cartridge during a period when Britain was maintaining military readiness between the First and Second World Wars. Original RL-manufactured Mk VII cartridges from this era are increasingly sought after by collectors of British military ammunition and Lee-Enfield rifles.
