Product Description

This authentic French 37 mm brass cartridge case, marked 37-85 PD.Ps 338 1/17 with the manufacturer Pinchart Denys, Paris, is a compelling relic from World War I era artillery. The “37-85” headstamp identifies it as a case for the 37 mm Hotchkiss (Mle 1885) calibre round, widely issued to French and Allied forces for infantry support and anti-machine-gun use during trench warfare. “PD.Ps” denotes the producer — Pinchart Denys of Paris, one of the key French munitions makers supplying artillery cases in the early 20th century, with the date code 1/17 indicating production in January 1917.

Crafted from solid brass, this casing exhibits a well-defined headstamp and retains original surface patina, making it attractive for collectors of WWI militaria, artillery ordnance, and trench art. While often found empty and inert, these cartridge cases provide a tangible connection to early mechanised warfare and the industrial scale of ammunition production. Perfect for display in a collection or as part of a historical exhibit, this French 37 mm case offers both historical interest and visual appeal.
