Product Description

This original 12.7mm (.50 calibre) inert drill round features a French “SF 1 83” headstamp, identifying it as a 1983 production example from Société Française des Munitions. Unlike standard service ammunition, this type of round is associated with training, testing, or experimental use, making it a more unusual and desirable piece for collectors.

The round is fitted with a copper-coloured projectile, giving it strong visual appeal and making it stand out from typical brass-cased .50 calibre examples. Drill and test rounds such as this were used for weapon handling, function testing, or evaluation purposes, rather than live firing, and are increasingly sought after due to their limited production and specialist role.

This example is completely inert and safe for display, with no active components. It is ideal for militaria collectors, ammunition enthusiasts, or as a striking addition to a display case. The larger size of the .50 calibre round ensures it has an impressive presence, whether displayed individually or as part of a broader collection.

A genuine and less commonly encountered piece of Cold War-era ammunition history.
