Product Description

Flying Helmet: brown leather chamois-lined flying helmet with rubber earpieces fitted with circular-shaped ear telephones. There are three metal pop fasteners on the left side of the face and a metal guide plate is fixed to the right. A bell-shaped jack plug is fitted.

Goggles: pair of blue-painted metal-framed goggles fitted with split-angled glass eye-pieces set in a leather padded cushion. There is an adjustable elasticated fabric strap fitted with a metal hook and leather tab.

The MkVIII goggles were the final and most successful of the RAF issue flying goggles during the Second World War. Introduced officially in October 1943, they were not supplied to aircrew until the earlier stocks were exhausted. The MkVIIIs continued in RAF service until made obsolete by the introduction of fiberglass helmets fitted with drop-down visors.
