Product Description

The British Army WWII Mk 3 "Turtle" Helmet was introduced in late 1943 as an improvement over the earlier Brodie helmets. It featured a more rounded and shallower design, resembling the shape of a turtle's shell, which provided better protection against shrapnel and debris from above. The helmet was made of manganese steel, offering increased durability and resistance to penetration.

Weighing around 2.5 pounds, the Mk 3 had a broad brim that offered more extensive coverage of the head and neck compared to its predecessors. The helmet's interior was lined with a three-point adjustable suspension system, which improved comfort and stability for the wearer. A brown or green textured matte finish helped reduce glare and provided camouflage.

The Mk 3 Turtle Helmet was primarily issued to assault troops during the Normandy landings (D-Day) in 1944 and quickly became standard issue for British and Commonwealth forces. Its effectiveness in combat and versatility in various environments made it a significant advancement in military headgear during WWII. The Mk 3 helmet continued to be used in the post-war years, eventually being replaced by the Mk 4 model in the early 1950s
