Product Description

Offered for sale here is a scarce and highly collectible American WWI-dated 75mm brass shell case, originally designed for the U.S. 75mm Field Gun. The case measures 75x350R and retains clear, deeply struck markings including “75M/M G. AM LOT 17181-54_H LOT 1270-68”. The struck push-in primer is stamped “US 18 1425-845”, confirming manufacture in 1918, the final year of the Great War.

This shell case was developed directly from the famous French 75mm Mle 1897 case, which formed the basis of U.S. production when America adopted and refined the French gun design for its own field artillery units. The American-made version became the foundation for later developments, most notably the 75mm M18 case, used extensively in both field and tank guns throughout the Second World War.

Constructed from solid brass, this case displays an attractive aged patina with crisp, legible markings—a fine example of early 20th-century American ordnance engineering. A rare and historically significant artifact, it represents the evolution of Allied artillery design from the trenches of WWI through to the mechanized warfare of WWII. Ideal for collectors of artillery shells, U.S. military ordnance, or early 20th-century weaponry history.
