Product Description

This 1973 Israel 10 Lirot banknote, issued by the Bank of Israel, features the portrait of Sir Moses Montefiore, a prominent 19th-century British Jewish philanthropist and supporter of the early Zionist movement. The note’s obverse honours Montefiore’s contributions to Jewish communities in the Holy Land, with his likeness depicted in fine detail. The reverse showcases a view of Montefiore’s windmill in Jerusalem, an iconic structure symbolising his dedication to the development of the region. Printed in deep blue tones, this banknote is part of Israel’s pre-shekel currency series (the Lira/Lirot), which was in circulation until the introduction of the shekel in 1980. This example is dated 1973—a historically significant year for Israel—and is offered in circulated condition, with visible signs of wear but all major features intact. A historically rich and visually striking note, perfect for collectors of Israeli, Judaica, or Middle Eastern currency.
