Product Description
The obverse side of the coin features the portrait of Queen Victoria, who was the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom from 1837 until her death in 1901. The specific design of the "Widow Head" refers to the depiction of Queen Victoria wearing a widow's veil following the death of her husband, Prince Albert, in 1861. The Queen is portrayed facing left, with a small crown on her head and the veil flowing behind her.
On the reverse side of the coin, you would find the image of a crowned shield within a wreath. The shield is divided into four quarters, each containing a different symbol representing the constituent countries of the United Kingdom: the three lions of England, the lion rampant of Scotland, the harp of Ireland, and the three lions of Hanover.
The coin is made of silver and has a diameter of approximately 28.5 millimeters. It weighs about 11.31 grams and contains 0.3364 troy ounces of pure silver. The edge of the coin is plain, without any inscriptions or reeding.
As a two-shilling coin, Queen Victoria Florin had a face value of two shillings, which was equivalent to 24 pence or 1/10th of a pound sterling. It was a widely circulated coin and was used in everyday transactions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
