Product Description
An original U.S. .30 USA (30-40 Krag) inert cartridge manufactured by Remington-Union Metallic Cartridge Company (REM-UMC) during the early twentieth century.
The REM-UMC 30 USA headstamp was used by Remington Arms–Union Metallic Cartridge Company following the 1911 merger of Remington and UMC. The designation "30 USA" refers to the .30 U.S. Army (.30-40 Krag) cartridge, the standard U.S. military rifle cartridge adopted in 1892 for the Krag–Jørgensen rifle and carbine. Although it was replaced by the .30-03 and later the .30-06 in front-line military service, the .30-40 Krag remained in widespread use for training, National Guard service, sporting rifles and civilian sales for many years.
Following the formation of REM-UMC, this headstamp was used on commercial production intended for both military replacement ammunition and the civilian market. Early REM-UMC examples are increasingly sought after by collectors because they represent the transition period following one of the most important mergers in the American ammunition industry.
