Product Description
An original inert German 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge manufactured in 1936, representing one of the early years of Wehrmacht rearmament before the outbreak of the Second World War.
The P316 factory code identifies Metallwarenfabrik Treuenbrietzen GmbH, Werk Selterhof, a major German ammunition manufacturer producing military rifle ammunition for the rapidly expanding German armed forces during the mid-1930s.
The headstamp consists of:
- P316 – Metallwarenfabrik Treuenbrietzen GmbH, Werk Selterhof
- 1936 – Year of manufacture
- S – Standard German cartridge brass (approximately 67% copper)
- 8 – Production Lot 8
Unlike later wartime production, this cartridge features a traditional brass case, as Germany had not yet widely adopted steel cases. Brass-cased pre-war P-code cartridges are popular with collectors because they illustrate the transition from the secret rearmament period into full wartime production.
