Product Description

This original pair of RAF Type E2 Anti-Glare Spectacles dates back to the early part of the Second World War, offering a rare glimpse into the eyewear used by Royal Air Force personnel before the mid-war introduction of the G Type sunglasses. The spectacles are characterized by their robust yet lightweight design, featuring chromium-plated metal frames and green-tinted glass lenses. These lenses were specifically crafted to reduce glare, enhancing visibility in bright, high-altitude conditions.

One of the most distinctive features of this pattern is the fold-out arms, designed with wrap-around earpieces for a secure fit during flight. In addition, the glasses are fitted with leather sections on each side, a unique aspect of the Type E2 spectacles, providing added comfort and glare protection.

The spectacles come complete with their original metal storage case, which remains in functional condition despite its age. This case would have been used by RAF personnel to safely store their glasses during non-operational periods, and undoubtedly bears the marks of a long and storied service history.

These early-war RAF Type E2 Anti-Glare Spectacles represent a fine example of essential pilot gear from the early stages of the conflict. Their combination of functionality and historical significance makes them a valuable addition to any military or aviation collection, preserving a piece of RAF heritage from a pivotal era
