Product Description

An excellent early Union Metallic Cartridge Company .41 Short Colt centre-fire cartridge, manufactured by U.M.C. of Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA.

The brass case carries the distinctive early headstamp:

U.M.C. – .41 SHORT

This cartridge features the characteristic large outside-lubricated lead round-nose projectile, giving it the unmistakable appearance of early American revolver ammunition.

The .41 Short Colt belongs to the family of late-19th and early-20th-century American revolver cartridges produced for compact single- and double-action revolvers. U.M.C. catalogues are documented as listing .41 Short Colt ammunition during this period; collector research records U.M.C.'s smokeless .41 Short Colt loading by the early 1900s.

The U.M.C.-only headstamp is particularly attractive because it predates the later REM-UMC branding that followed the association and eventual merger of Remington and U.M.C.

A very good example for a collection of early American revolver ammunition, U.M.C. cartridges or obsolete pistol calibres.
