Product Description
Original British .303 inch Mark VI service cartridge, manufactured at the Royal Laboratory, Woolwich Arsenal in 1912.
The headstamp is marked:
R↑L / 12 / VI
The R↑L marking identifies the Royal Laboratory at Woolwich Arsenal, with the distinctive British Government Broad Arrow incorporated into the manufacturer's mark. 12 denotes manufacture in 1912, while VI identifies the cartridge as Mark VI.
The Mk VI represents the final major round-nosed British .303 service ball pattern preceding the famous pointed Mk VII. Although the Mk VII entered service in 1910, Mk VI ammunition continued to be produced afterwards for rifles and organisations still requiring the older loading. Examples were manufactured into the First World War.
This example retains its characteristic long round-nosed cupro-nickel-coloured projectile, brass case and very attractive early Royal Laboratory headstamp.
