Original WW2-era inert 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge with auv St 1944 headstamp, manufactured by Polte Armaturen- und Maschinenfabrik AG (Werk Grüneberg), Germany.
Dated 1944, this round represents late-war German production, when material shortages led to widespread use of steel cases (Stahlhülse). Polte was one of the primary suppliers of 7.92mm ammunition to German forces throughout the war.
This cartridge would have been standard issue for use in the Kar98k rifle, MG34, and MG42 machine guns, forming part of the backbone of German small arms ammunition supply.
The headstamp is clear and well defined, making this an excellent collector’s piece, display round, or headstamp reference example, particularly for those focusing on late-war production.
