Product Description
This inert .303 British cartridge features the sought-after RL C V headstamp, identifying manufacture by the Royal Laboratory, Woolwich, UK. The Royal Laboratory at Woolwich Arsenal was one of Britain’s principal military ammunition producers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, supplying the British Army during a pivotal period of imperial and First World War service.
The “RL” marking denotes Royal Laboratory production, while “C V” indicates the Cartridge Mark V designation—an early cordite-loaded variant developed to improve ballistic performance in the .303 service cartridge. Ammunition of this era was widely issued for use in the Lee-Metford and early Lee-Enfield rifles, making examples with clear RL markings especially collectible today.
This round has been professionally deactivated and is completely inert, rendering it safe for display purposes (buyers should confirm compliance with local regulations). The brass case retains good, honest age-related patina, with a clearly legible headstamp and well-defined lettering.
An excellent addition for collectors of British military ammunition, Boer War or WWI-era artifacts, and Woolwich Arsenal memorabilia, this RL C V .303 round represents an authentic piece of early British small-arms history.
